Revitalizing a crumbling city treasure was all part of the challenge. Constructed from double brick with soft limestone mortar and a train line just outside the back door, the project presented some interesting challenges while creating a contemporary feel for the old-style "Bungalow" home. Installing large cavity sliding cedar doors, an open plan living area, and a new spotted gum deck with 3 meter wide stairs leading to the backyard, this small city dwelling was transformed into a modern, stylish space. The bathroom, in particular, was given a "top notch" renovation with millimeter precision and exact proportions, as well as a remade built-in shellacked cupboard for added seclusion. Finally, the existing brick from the walls was carefully cleaned and reused around the 'swing' tree in a circular pattern.
