Creatively Designed Waterfront Living by TAKT Architects

Estuary House Dual Occupancy

The team at Katarina & Brent had their work cut out for them with this waterfront design in the Milton-Ulladulla region of Shoalhaven, South Coast NSW. Our crew was devoted to bringing to life the detailed vision of the Architects in this beautiful part of the world. The result is a high-end structure with exceptional timber work and materials, cleverly designed for the South Coast NSW landscape. Problem solving was key to ensure the dual occupancy structure and firewall were structurally sound, and the floating roof was the perfect finishing touch, resembling a tarpolin covering.

To make the best of the location, sliding aluminium shutters were added to vary the light intensity throughout the year. The cooling ocean breezes from the Basin can be fully utilised to cool down the space during summer, whilst northerly sunlight can filter through with top highlight windows. The thinly stretched roofline and eaves protect the inside from summer heat, whilst the concrete slab adds thermal mass, encapsulating the passive design. Topped off with a horizon-line infinity pool, it's difficult to place the separation of pool and Basin when viewed from the living area.
